Masada
Masada
Masada is a desert rock fortress located near the western shore of the Dead Sea. Herod the Great (37–4 B.C.) was a major builder of the site. During the first Jewish Revolt against the Romans Zealots captured the fortress and held out there even after the fall of Jerusalem in A.D. 70, until they decided to die rather than face the onslaught of the Roman Army that was about to capture them.
