Description

So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse:

to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents — 1 Kings 12:16

The House of David, particularly Solomon, began his reign with great wisdom, blessing, promise and prosperity. It was a high-water mark in Israelite history. Yet Solomon turned from following God with all his heart and before his death, the prophet said the fault line between Israel and Judah would snap. Solomon’s son and successor, Rehoboam (possibly the ‘son’ mentioned in the Book of Proverbs), had none of his father’s strengths but dutifully followed in his weakness. He succeeded in splitting the united kingdom of Israel into two hostile entities. They were known as ‘Israel and Judah,’ and it was downhill ever since.

In Israel & Judah: Understanding the Book of 1 Kings – Part 02 (Chapters 12-22) you will learn about:

  • How the fateful encounter between Rehoboam and Jeroboam split David’s kingdom into Israel and Judah;
  • The folly of both Rehoboam and Jeroboam;
  • The evil reigns of the kings of Israel;
  • The good reigns of a few kings of Judah;
  • The very evil reign of Ahab and Jezebel;
  • The role of the prophets among the twin kingdoms;
  • The powerful ministry of Elijah the Tishbite; is a light shining in a dark place.
